What is Quill?

The official description of Quill on Alexa.com is they provide low prices on office supplies. Most orders over $45 ship free. Larry Morse, the president of Quill, claims he is very passionate both about office supplies and taking care of you as a customer. They strive to get it right everytime says Morse. Quill.com's address is 100 S. Schelter Road Lincolnshire, IL 60069 USA.

History of Quill:

According to the Encyclopedia of Chicago Quill Corp. was founded, "1956 on Chicago's North Side by Jack Miller, who was joined in the business by his brothers Harvey and Arnold (http://www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/2822.html). In 1973 the brothers had a successful catalog business on their hands with sales of 3.5 million. This 3.5 million grew to 400 million by the mid 1990s and in 1998 the Miller Brothers sold their business for $685 million to Massachusetts-based chain store Staples Inc (http://www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/2822.html).

Quill.com Review:

Based on 17 customer reviews Quill.com received 5 out of 5 ratings. The lowest rating Quill received out of all the reviews was 4 out of 5 stars, so it's a near perfect score. Many comment that Quill's customer service is excellent and the shipping is very fast. Customers also comment about the great sales and low everyday pricing. One negative complaints I read on ePinions about Quill is that once you start purchasing product Quill takes you to pages where they "encourage" you to buy more related product which gets annoying. This is a petty complaint showing why Quill is one of the better office supply stores.

Finances:

According to Standard and Poor's Staples Inc. financial statement Quill supplies the needs for approx. 1,000,000 small and medium sized business' in the US. In 2007 Staples has revenue of 18,161 ($ millions).

Court Cases:

One of the many useless pieces of information I found on Wikipedia was Quill Corp v. North Dakota. This is the Supreme Court case where North Dakota claimed Quill Corp. owed them sales tax because Quill sold office supplies in their state. Quill stated and the Supreme Court later agreed that since Quill didn't have a physical location in North Dakota and didn't employ anyone in the state Quill shouldn't have to pay sales tax.

What I think of Quill:

Quill is one of the best office supply stores in my opinion because of their everyday low prices, the ability to save when you buy in bulk, tons of sales, and free shipping over $45 to name only a few. Quill also has great customer service and fast shipping which I think is number one if you own a small or medium size business.
