9malls.com review of Fandango.com Rating: *** 3.0 out of 5 stars Web site: www.Fandango.com Fandango.com Review: First of all I'd like to explain where the name Fandango.com comes from. This definition comes from Wikipedia, "Fandangos is a style of folk and flamenco music and dance." The founders of Fandango.com must have really liked this dance. They are known for their paper bag puppet ads. If you've ever been to theater you most likely would have viewed these interesting commercials. Fandango.com charges between 75¢ - $1.50 for you to use of their ticketing web site. The other major movie ticket competitor site is called MovieTickets.com. Fandango.com is a privately held company and its two largest investors are Regal Entertainment Group and AMC Theatres (Wikipedia.org). On Alexa.com out of the 3 reviews of Fandango the site gets a 4 out of 5 stars. The reviewer that rated Fandango the lowest made the point that he hated paying an extra $1 for a movie ticket only to discover when at the theater there are only 15 people in line. That's the thing, unless you know the movie you want to see is sold out I wouldn't use Fandango. On the web site ePinions.com Fandango.com ranks a dismall 2 1/2 out of 5 stars. Most people complain about Fandago's lack of customer service or they are perplexed about why someone would pay even more to see a movie. Fandango Promotions: The only time I've purchased movie tickets from Fandango.com is when they are having promotions. Many times Fandango will wave their sevice change. The most recent purchase I made through Fandango.com was after I discovered a deal on SlickDeals.net through JohnnyWalker.com. The offer was for a free movie ticket. Can't beat free! Right now at the time of this review Discover Card holders can use the Fandango ticketing service with no service charge. Fandango.com has promotions all the time, I personally would wait and only buy tickets when sales were going on. Be sure to visit SlickDeals.net or 9malls.com to check the latest Fandango deals and coupons. Financial: In an article written in the HollywoodReporter.com on Jan. 18th 2007 it stats Fandango hired Daniel Murray a former Yahoo Inc. and Overture executive as chief financial officer. The CEO of Fandango is Chuck Davis. Chuck Davis was named Fandango's CEO in July 2006. Chuck Davis was CEO of Shopzilla (formerly BizRate) and president of e-commerce for Walt Disney Internet Group (dmwmedia.com). Read more about the Fandango.com executive team at the Official Fandango Web site http://www.fandango.com/ExecutiveTeam.aspx. "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" accounted for the company's best ever day-before-opening (July 6) and ticket-selling day (July 7), when it sold an average of nearly 10 tickets per second to the film (dmwmedia.com)." Here are some interesting facts about business partnerships in this market. "Fandango provides online ticket purchase for Yahoo and Amazon's IMDB.com. MovieTickets.com provides online ticket purchase for Time Warner's AOL (including MovieFone.com), Microsoft (including Microsoft's Media Player), and most recently Google Movies (http://media.seekingalpha.com/article/334)." Lowes and Fandango have a partnership that will last until 2011 (http://media.seekingalpha.com/article/334)." Fandango.com sells to 70% of the nation's theaters.
